Day 2: October 2, 2009 Measuring Session Continued
Morning Stretch Our morning stretch workout started off with Primary Back Stretch. Teresa took us to the floor and showed how to use a towel to get a better stretch.
Basic Workout + Hoe Down Showdown Teresa took the time to give detailed explanation and education on the exercises in the Basic Workout, skipping Hoe Downs at the end. It's amazing how when she slows down the moves and you focus on form how much more intense that little workout is! Then she surprised us all with an impromptu Hoe Down Showdown! For those unfamiliar, a Hoe Down Showdown consists of doing as many sets as you can of the exercise Hoe Downs in a row with good form. Hoe Downs is very cardio and aerobic exercise that involves the entire body while utilizing the core and burning off blood sugar quickly. Previously the students at Sun Ray Elementary School completed 50 sets, so we attempted to beat that record! (Click here to watch a short video BlessedMama took during the session.)
The T-Tappers shown here completed 55 sets of Hoe Downs! Check out the Hoe Downs video in the Try Before You Buy section of our site for free and try your own Hoe Down Showdown at home with friends and family!
Total Workout This Total Workout put together the muscle activation techniques taught on Day 1 of the Retreat.
Presentation by Dr. Rob Carlson Dr. Rob Carlson, a Heart Surgeon and renowned expert for bioidentical hormone therapy (Suzanne Somers' doctor), Vitamin D and HCG therapy, as well as a competitive Iron Man athlete. Dr. Rob Carlson spoke about hormones and a bit about thyroid, but he left that one open for Mary Shomon's presentation on Day 3.
Dr. Rob's talk was interesting. He recommends taking vitamin D3 daily in the range of 1,000-4,000 IU. Vitamin D3 does so much for the body! Not many of us get enough sun... and vitamin D3 is the only vitamin the body can manufacture from sunlight (UVB). Therefore, it's important to supplement with D3. Additionally, Dr. Rob recommends taking 1,000 mg of omega3 per day and also supplementing with Resveratrol, a powerful anti-oxidant found in grapes.
Decadent Coffee Bar and Birthday Celebration Our decadent coffee bar at the Spa just about beats the taste of fancy coffee shops! We got the beautiful Vienneese Display that included an assortment on miniature desserts (Eclairs, Petit Fours, Neapolitans, Fresh Fruit Tarts, Key Lime Tarts and Mini Cheesecakes), freshly brewed coffee and decaf with cinnamon sticks, grated orange peel, chocolate syrup, fresh whipped cream, nutmeg and raw sugar, and crystal candy swizzle sticks. OH my! We also celebrated Jeanne's 50th birthday! She's a T-Tapp Trainer and Staff Member. Happy Birthday Jeanne!
Presentation by Jim Lofthouse To end our day we had a special evening session with Jim Lofthouse, a biochemist formulator with a Masters in Nutrition. He shared information and samples of two of the products that he was involved in formulating: the very popular Wobenzym and the new breakthrough product Gentle Transition (made with Blue-Green Algae) used for menopause management and body balancing.
Strike A Pose and Walk the Walk Session Teresa Tapp shared her knowledge from working in the modeling industry and taught us all how to strike a pose and walk the catwalk just like models do. (And yes, we did rent a real catwalk that extended from the main stage.) Many of the 2009 60-Day Challenge winners attended this Retreat and were getting professional photos done by Dave Monroe. Learning the tricks of the trade helped the winners (and us regular folk) be more confident in front of the camera and take better pictures. This session was filled with excitement, smiles, laughter and fun! Here's a behind the scenes photo of Jennifer Klever:
